My trading
journal.

I’m Rich. I’ve been trading for about eight years. Here I write about what I try, what works, what doesn’t, and what I learn along the way.

The Auction Room

I use Volume Profile to see where trading has taken place, and Auction Market Theory to think about how price moves between areas. These are my own notes on what I’m learning.

My own developing approach.
01

Where trading happened

Volume Profile groups trading by price. I watch the point of control (POC), where the most volume traded, and the value area high and low (VAH and VAL), which mark the edges of the session’s main trading area. They’re reference points, not buy or sell signals.

02

Balance or movement

Sometimes price rotates in an area where buyers and sellers are both active. Sometimes it moves away and holds at new prices. I look at what happens after a level is crossed; one quick move beyond it doesn’t tell the whole story.

03

Context before a setup

I compare the current session with previous-day, overnight and developing profiles. I ask whether price is holding beyond an area or returning into it. Nearby levels only count as extra evidence when they add something different.

04

Wait for the price I planned

I try not to chase a move. One setup I’m studying starts inside developing value, extends clearly beyond VAH or VAL, then returns toward the POC node. I’m testing the idea of a move in the direction of that extension; it isn’t a guaranteed signal.

05

Know the risk and review

Before a trade, I plan the entry, exit if I’m wrong, target and size. The stop for one trade and the point that changes my wider market view can be different. I record both and review the decision, not only the result.

How I’m doing.

I’ll add results when I can check them against my records. Until then, I’ll leave the numbers blank.

Prop-firm field notes

I’ll compare the account type, fees, loss limits and payout rules, alongside my own experience. Rules differ and can change; evaluation fees can be lost and payouts aren’t guaranteed.
